Phase One of Color and Space Assignment-
This is the first phase of the final assignment to chose a movie or a book and create three sketches about the movie or book. I chose to watch the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, and my three sketches have many symbols in them which I felt were important in the movie. The colors I chose, do have meaning behind them. One of the main colors in the movie was red, and blue. Some of the other colors I chose to place in my sketches symbolize some of the feelings that go along with what the object represents in the movie. I now am thinking of what color scheme I would like to continue with for the next phase and has a lot of meaning and feeling in the movie.

Texture-
For this assignment we focused on creating texture through collage. "Urban Detritus" was the phase we were supposed to think about when creating our piece. I chose to create a city scape with old cans, boxes and different pieces of trash I found. We were supposed to create beauty from something that is not normally thought of as being pretty. I like making collages so I had fun creating my piece. The different materials I used created actual texture, while the horizontal paint strokes on the buildings were simulated texture. Overall I think I was successful in creating texture with my collage.

My Batik-
I liked the process of making a batik, however I was really nervous because I did not know the outcome of what I was doing. I tried to choose colors that would make the shapes of the trees stand out the most. Also I tried to use the crackling effect however, it did not exactly turn out the way I wanted it to. Overall I liked making the batik, even though at some points I felt as though I did not know exactly what it would look like in the end.

MUSEUM Assignment-
Soviet Textiles verses African Printed Textiles

Wheels in Motion designed by Lyubov Wikolaevna Silich is an intricate design on cotton in the Soviet Textiles showcase. It has a mixture of colors with the same value such as forest green, mustard yellow, white, black, purple, red, and maroon. It has a warm feeling, when one looks at it. This piece has an invented texture by the artist. It has an abstract pattern which creates a sense that the actual round wheels are in motion. The lines of the colors are in curves around the wheels, it creates a directional movement.
Ghana which is part of the African Printed Textiles showcase is quite different from the first piece. This realistic design is of three song birds in the middle with trees on each side of the panel with many leaves climbing up and around the panel. On the bottom of the panel are flowers and shapes of grass or leaves, with also a fallen tree, tilting over. In the negative space around the birds and in the background are textural lines in the motion of wind. This is also part of invented texture by the artist in order to create a sense of movement and wind. It also has abstract texture on the birds; their feathers are enlarged in order for the viewer to understand what they are. The shapes of the leaves on the trees are also enlarged, and abstracted. The colors in this piece are of all different values of the same blue, from dark blue to white.
